Brown University required an extensive renovation of an existing 1930’s brick masonry classroom building. The resulting finished project must be the State of the Art, technically advanced, and provide a 21st-century interior, to provoke a new level of education and higher thinking. All this, to be completed over the Summer months, which is a typical requirement within the Educational community, and great task from the construction industry.

Pella’s Architect Series product line was selected to fit and blend into the historical details of the building. Care and attention were also considered as the building sits within the South Thayer historic neighborhood. Since the building’s exterior was in reasonably good condition, exterior profiled window casings and trim work, were to remain in place. Fitting new materials into the old was the main goal. To accomplish this, Pella new construction style windows were inserted into existing window frames, from the interior of the building, to make a seamless result. The building now incorporates up to date, highly efficient windows, set into the existing fabric of the building.
